Is Travel Insurance Really Necessary?

Travel is already expensive enough, isn't it? The cost of air fare, cruises, hotels, ground transportation, food and activities and entertainment are already high enough. I don't know about you, but I work hard for my money, and when I travel, I want to keep as much of my money in MY pocket as possible. Is travel insurance a necessity or a luxury? Why not cut a few corners here and there. Why buy something if it’s not really needed?

Don’t Vape Your Way Into The Klong Prem

Bangkok’s Klong Prem Central Prison is something that tourists to Thailand usually try to avoid. Highly regimented, squalid living conditions, rotten food, harsh guards, and a powerful sense of isolation all add to the wonderful ambience of the place. An “extended stay” at this modern day Lubyanka Prison is something to be avoided at all costs. However, unwitting tourists might be bringing something into the country that could result in a long prison term and a hefty fine. What is this contraband? Heroin? Cocaine? Marijuana? Guns? Hustler Magazines? Vials of Ebola virus? No, none of these. The contraband that can destroy your life is...an e-cigarette.

Over fifty international air carriers offer flights to Thailand’s six international airports. Suvarnabhumi Airport, in Bangkok, by itself receives 45 million passengers a year. Eight hundred flights land there every day. This year, Thailand will host 39.5 million tourists, that number equals over 58% of Thailand’s total native population. Most tourists come for the beautiful beaches, cultural destinations, exciting scuba diving, exotic food, and the world-famous magnet for the sensually curious...Bangkok’s Patpong red light district.

The Viking Name Game

Vikings had a number of unusual methods they used for naming their children. Some of them were in honor of ancestors and some were to honor others. One method focused on sounds and another was built around nicknames. Each had a specific pattern that was followed – and sometimes ignored – by parents seeking ways to give a child a unique identity.

Here’s a breakdown of those methods:

A Different Kind of Viking History – Part 2

We pick up our story at about the year 1000. In fact, if we go backwards just a little bit we discover something very interesting about the Vikings. They bored easily. After decades of raiding and pillaging nearby villages, there was a time when those villages no longer had anything new to offer. Considering the raiding Vikings made off with anything of value during those unexpected visits to nearby communities – food, valuables, and women – there was no more fun in it. Besides, once your army controls everything around you there is not much choice left other than waging war against yourself.

Yup, the Vikings did that, too. But that became boring as well.

Copenhagen on a Budget

How to survive in one of the most expensive cities, without breaking the bank.

I am born and raised just outside of Copenhagen, where strawberries were bought in buckets where the grass ends in gooseberries and ribs. Back then, Copenhagen was a big city far away, but now I can jump on the train every 10 minutes, and be in the city center in less than 30 minutes. The distance is still the same but the city doesn’t feel that far away nowadays.
I love being in the city at summertime, spending my time biking or walking around, hanging out at a café having a coffee or a beer, go to Papirøen and eat at one of the many stalls at Copenhagen Street Food.

I often read or hear that Copenhagen are one of the most expensive cities to stay in, and that’s why many budget travelers avoid going here, but the truth is that you can actually explore Copenhagen without breaking the bank, so let’s dig into how that is possibly:

A Different Kind of Viking History – Part 1

The Early Years

The Middle Ages. Not middle-aged. We’re talking the period of time around 700 AD, slightly before the invention of electricity and the fax machine. It was way back then where the Vikings roamed the world. Well, at least the part of the world they could easily get to and conquer with little or no trouble.

Copenhagen are known to be one of the top bike capitals in the world, and are a very bike friendly city with bike lanes almost all over town. There are bridges crossing the harbor which are only for bikes and pedestrians. Super bike lanes, which help you get fast from one point to another. Streets where the traffic lights are adjusted so that the bikes can go along, riding the green wave and don’t have to stop.

Tourist Sim Card

There are certain things you should avoid doing on an open network when traveling abroad.

It can be expensive to use the internet abroad, and by that it is simple and easy to connect to an open wifi network at the café, hotel or in the airport. Then you are again connected with the rest of the world.

But you better think twice about what you are doing, because you never know if it is only you using the connection.
